On Saturday night, a pregnant woman was shot dead while unloading a gift from a baby shower outside her home.

The unnamed 32-year-old woman was shot multiple times in the head and abdomen. The authorities said she appeared to be the target.

The police are investigating the incident in Laucrest, northeast Philadelphia, at approximately 8.30pm.

A nearby police officer heard gunshots and rushed to the scene to look for the seven-month pregnant woman who was injured in multiple places.

According to the police, 11 cartridge cases were found at the scene.

According to ABC Radio 6, she was taken to the Einstein Medical Center and was pronounced dead shortly after.

Officials said the unborn child she was pregnant was also pronounced dead in the hospital.

When the police investigated the area around the car, still full of diapers and gifts, a woman believed to be the victim's best friend arrived at the scene screaming.

Christine Coulter, the deputy commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department, said: "I mean, the people who did this are weaker."

There were nearly 500 homicides in Philadelphia this year, and residents demanded more action from the city. Some people called on Mayor Jim Kenney to declare a state of emergency in the city due to gun violence.

Commissioner Kurt said: "The whole city is doing everything we can. We can't stop people who want to shoot."

She added: “When I saw this, it seemed that someone was aiming at her and looking for her.”

Mayor Kenny wrote on Twitter: "This news is deeply disturbing and heartbreaking. At this painful moment, my heart is with the victim's relatives."

No suspects have been identified, and the city has offered a reward of $50,000 to provide information about the shooting that led to the arrest.

The victim’s neighbor Tom Macdonald told ABC6: “She is a good person in the street and on the street. It’s just sad.”
